New Rumours – film premiere, zine give away and disco

New Rumours is a Heritage Lottery funded research project archiving the experiences of those who attended Margate’s iconic early gay venues, Rumours and The New Inn, run by local legend Shirley Sullivan. We’re celebrating with a night at Sundowners on Friday 13th September.
A limited number of zines will be given away, detailing the research and interviews by Jen Scott and Bob Chicalors (Shelly Grotto and Janet District Council respectively), alongside a screening of a mini documentary style film by Ellie Dangerfield, featuring interviews with barstaff, regulars, attendees and Shirley’s family.
It will be followed by a mini-disco of Rumours hits, playing songs from the 80s and 90s, with nostalgic decor and photos galore, and your chance to become the subject of the hot gossip board…
FREE, 7pm – 11pm. Screening approx 8pm.
