The Missing Pieces

Currently based in Ramsgate, David Tovar focuses on portraiture and human figures.

After the pandemic cut short his art studies at the London Fine Arts Studios, he continued learning on his own, which allowed him to focus his practice on the topics and community he wanted to portray, focusing on queer identities.

David works primarily in oils, charcoal and pencils. His traditional, figurative style consciously contrasts with the topics of his paintings. Sometimes narrative, often tender, his oils celebrate queer moments which he feels have been underrepresented in the history of art. There is a sense of intimacy which is the fruit of his observation of and conversations with his models.

David’s debut solo show, “Roaring On the Other Side of Silence,” took place in March, 2024, at The Peggy Jay Gallery at Burgh House, London.
